Helpful Reminders for Installing RTA Cabinets
Ready to assemble cabinets are a popular choice for homeowners and professionals alike because they offer flexibility, efficiency, and quality craftsmanship. As you prepare for your installation, keeping a few important reminders in mind can help ensure a smooth and stress free experience from start to finish.
Understanding How RTA Cabinets Arrive
All RTA cabinets arrive flat packed, which means assembly is required before installation. Every cabinet has detailed written instructions along with instructional videos that are available on our website. Reviewing these resources before you begin can help you feel confident and prepared.
Each standard cabinet ships in two separate boxes. One box contains the cabinet carcass, which is the structural box of the cabinet as well as the drawer box if applicable to your cabinet. The carcass is finished in a pure white color and is identified by a SKU that begins with the letter C.
The second box contains the cabinet front, which includes the face frame along with the fronts to the drawers and/or doors. The front will arrive in the color you selected for your design and is identified by a SKU that begins with the letter F.
It is very important to match each carcass box with its corresponding front box before opening and assembling. Your order confirmation will assist you in pairing boxes for assembly as it contains the box number/sku used for each cabinet.
Additionally, remember that all exposed sides will need a color matched skin if choosing a color other than pure white. These side skins will need to be ordered separately and will come in its own box separate from the cabinets.
Exceptions to the Two Box Rule
Some specialty cabinets and additional items arrive fully packaged in a single box. These include trim, skins, accessories, glass door cabinets, spice pull outs, spice drawers, wine racks, and wall spice cabinets. These items do not require matching a separate carcass and front and will be clearly labeled as a single unit.
Stay Organized During Assembly
When assembling your cabinets, open only one box at a time. This helps prevent pieces from different cabinets from getting mixed together and makes the process far more manageable. Keeping each cabinet’s components grouped together also allows our customer service and support team to assist more effectively if questions arise. Additionally, keep the box as you construct the cabinet until you are finished building the cabinet and are happy with the results. Our customer service team will need the number listed on the box to assist you if any concerns or questions arise during or after construction.
Once parts from multiple cabinets are opened and mixed together, it becomes much more difficult to identify specific components remotely. Staying organized from the beginning can save time and avoid unnecessary confusion.
All matching side skins, trim pieces and accessories should also be kept together so they are easy to locate when needed during assembly or installation.
What to Do If You Have Questions
If you encounter a question about a specific piece or a step in the build process, avoid opening additional boxes. Instead, pause and review the instructions or instructional videos available on our website. If you still need assistance, our support team is happy to help guide you through the next step.
By following the recommended steps, keeping components organized, and using the resources provided, you will find that assembling RTA cabinets can be a smooth and straightforward process. With a little preparation and patience, you will be well on your way to a successful installation and a beautiful finished space.
