Planning Your Renovation or New Build: What to Know Before Ordering

Planning a renovation or new construction project involves many decisions, and cabinetry is one of the most important components. To ensure a smooth design and ordering process, it is essential to understand what Lanae Cabinetry provides and what information is required before cabinet production begins.

This guide outlines key considerations to help set clear expectations, avoid delays, and ensure a successful cabinet experience from start to finish.

What Lanae Cabinetry Does and Does Not Provide

Lanae Cabinetry specializes in supplying high quality ready to assemble (RTA) cabinets. While cabinetry works closely with other elements of a renovation, certain products and services fall outside of our scope.

Lanae Cabinetry does not provide:

Countertops

Appliances

Ventilation hoods

Cabinet installation services

Contractor or installer recommendations

Understanding these boundaries early in the process helps ensure proper coordination with other trades and suppliers involved in your project.

Appliance Sizes Must Be Finalized Before Design Begins

Accurate appliance dimensions are critical to proper cabinet design. Cabinets are built to accommodate specific appliance sizes, and changes after design approval can result in fit issues or delays.

Before beginning the design process, appliance selections should be finalized. Please be prepared to provide specifications for:

Refrigerators

Ranges or cooktops

Wall ovens

Microwaves

Dishwashers

Providing complete and accurate appliance measurements ensures proper clearances and a successful installation.

Over the Range Hoods and Cabinet Planning

Although Lanae Cabinetry does not carry ventilation hoods, it is important to know whether your kitchen design includes one. Hood dimensions and mounting requirements directly impact the cabinetry above the cooking surface.

If a hood is planned, Lanae Cabinetry can provide color matched paneling that your contractor or installer may use to create a seamless, built in appearance that coordinates with your cabinets.

Window and Door Placement Matters

Window and door locations have a direct impact on cabinet sizing and placement. Trim and moulding surrounding these openings can further affect available space.

Please provide the following details during the design process:

Window and door locations

Opening dimensions

Information on any trim or moulding

Accurate measurements help prevent conflicts between cabinetry and architectural features.

When ordering cabinets online, it is also important to account for filler panels. Filler is required whenever a wall cabinet sits against a wall to allow for proper door swing. We recommend a minimum of 1/4 inch of spacing between a cabinet and wall when no hardware is used, and a minimum of 1.5 inches when cabinet hardware is installed.

Installation Planning and Third Party Responsibility

Lanae Cabinetry does not provide installation services. Customers may choose to hire a professional installer or complete the installation themselves.

When working with any third party during a remodel or new build, it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that all measurements, site conditions, appliance specifications, and installation requirements are accurate and communicated prior to ordering.

Knowing who will install the cabinets allows for better coordination of delivery, job site preparation, and scheduling.

When to Order Your Cabinets

Timing is a key factor in a smooth installation process. Cabinets should be ordered and delivered before scheduling installation to allow sufficient time for preparation and planning.

Scheduling installation solely based on an estimated delivery date can lead to additional costs if unexpected delays occur. Factors that may affect delivery timelines include:

Holidays or closed delivery days

Weather conditions or natural events

Access limitations at the delivery location

Ordering cabinets early helps reduce stress, avoid rushed decisions, and prepare for unexpected circumstances.

Preparing for a Successful Cabinet Experience

Understanding what Lanae Cabinetry provides and what information is required allows the design and ordering process to move forward efficiently. While countertops, appliances, and installation are handled separately, accurate appliance details, hood planning, window and door placement, and proper ordering timelines all play an essential role in a successful cabinet installation.

Careful planning and clear communication help ensure your cabinetry project stays on track and delivers the results you expect.
