How to Repaint Your Lanae Cabinetry: Our Recommended Method

One of the greatest advantages of Lanae Cabinetry is the versatility of our finishes. While we offer a curated collection of designer colors, many of our customers choose to personalize their space with a custom hue.

Because our cabinets feature high-quality hardwood stiles and rails, they take paint beautifully. You do not need a separate primer; our factory finish is designed to act as a stable base for your new color when prepared correctly.

The Step-by-Step Customization Process

To achieve a professional-grade finish, we recommend a "sand and layer" approach:

The Initial Scuff: Begin by lightly scuffing the existing factory finish using 220-grit sandpaper. This creates "tooth" for the new paint to bond to.

The First Coat: Apply your first layer of high-quality cabinet paint evenly across the surface.

Refine the Surface: Once the first coat is dry, sand the surface again with a finer grit sandpaper. This removes any minor imperfections or raised grain.

Repeat for Depth: Apply a second coat. For most projects, two to three passes of sanding and painting are enough to achieve a smooth, level, and durable finish.

Pro Tips for a Successful Finish

Factory as Primer: You do not need to strip the cabinets. The existing factory finish, once scuff-sanded, provides an ideal surface for paint adhesion.

Manage Your Expectations: While repainting allows for endless creativity, please note that the final finish quality and long-term durability may differ from our specialized factory-applied coatings.

Consistency is Key: Use thin, even coats rather than one thick coat to avoid drips and ensure a harder, more resilient surface.
